My Natural Path

I’m an artist. I teach private lessons and workshops and I’ve been creating some kind of art for about 65 years. I’ve always been drawn to nature.  I spent the last year searching for a new creative direction for my art and the resounding NATURE echoed in my head. I can’t live without plants, flowers and trees in my life.

Royal Gorge

There’s something about being in nature that brings me peace and relaxation. I feel really connected to the earth. I don’t just stand on it, but am deeply rooted here. A breeze rushing through pine trees in a forest and a nearby babbling brook can make me so relaxed, I could fall asleep just standing there. Driving through the redwood forests up north was always a joy for me. I’d roll down the windows even if it was raining and take in all the colors, smells, and sounds whipping by. Slowing way down or going into a turn-out to stop. All the sounds: birds chirping or a deer stepping on a branch would bring an involuntary sigh. The smells and colors of the fora would feed my senses.

California Coast

I chose nature for my art just because of those things. I have taken a big dive back into nature in my art to create paintings that fill my soul and I hope for others also.

I have little alters of natural elements around my house of twigs, rocks, pine cones, California oak leaves with acorns, and sea shells. These things of nature I can draw and paint but the more obscure things like the breezes or the smells of the forest, the salt water spray as it speckles my face, I must  create a different way. I can evoke that through my feelings and emotions and translate them to my paintings with the use of colors, techniques, and designs. I can paint those things and hope that you can feel those them too. Maybe my art will draw you to go into nature and enjoy its many benefits.

Over The Ridge

Studies show that being in nature can release stress or reduce anxiousness or sadness. Regardless of age or culture, humans find nature pleasing. Nature heals, soothes, restores and connects us. We are genetically programmed to find, trees, plants, water and other nature elements engrossing. Also, time in nature or viewing nature scenes increases our ability to pay attention.

This is why I am so into nature and create art that is nature themed. I hope that you will enjoy my nature-inspired work.

Nature is so important to me too. One of these days, we’ll have to walk through the woods together and then make something from the experience. I love the photos in this post!

    1. Laura, yes a walk in the woods sounds fabulous.
